NEWS RELEASE: National Safe Boating Week

May 19 through 25, 2018 is National Safe Boating Week. The volunteer membership of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Guam Flotilla 140-02-24, together with the United States Coast Guard, Guam Police Department, Guam Fire Department, Guam Customs and Quarantine, Guam Homeland Security, NOAA, Sea Grant, Coral Reef, Boat Shop Guam, Sharks MADE, and local marine dealers want to remind local boaters to have the proper gear, and when it comes to life jackets to always, “Wear It!”

The public is invited to attend the celebration of Guam Safe Boating Week, part of the 2018 North American Safe Boating Campaign. Sponsored jointly by the U.S. Coast Guard, USCG Auxiliary, and the National Safe Boating Council, the safe boating activities are designed to increase the awareness of safety for boaters and water enthusiasts.  This campaign will kick-off with a Proclamation signing on May 18, 2018 issued by the
Lt. Gov. Raymond Tenorio.

A legislative resolution introduced by Senator Telena Nelson will also be presented during the annual National Safe Boating Display at the Agana Shopping Center on Saturday, May 19, 2018.  The display will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and feature safety equipment and capabilities of each participating agency.

Ramp watches will also be held on May 20 at the Agat Marina from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., May 22 at the Merizo Pier from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and May 26 at the Agana Marina from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Those interested in a free vessel safety check may also contact the USCG Auxiliary.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard created by an Act of Congress in 1939. The Auxiliary assists the Coast Guard in many of its missions.
